چکیده

Hypocalcemia is one of the common complications after total thyroidectomy. In these patients, serum parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcium level decreases, and phosphorus increases. The fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23), a phosphaturic hormone, increases in to normalize level. our study, we aimed investigate predictive values PTH, calcium, phosphorus, 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D (vitamin D), FGF-23 tests revealing patients who will develop hypocalcemia Fifty-seven undergoing thyroidectomy (fifty-two with multinodular goiter, three Graves’ disease two papillary thyroid cancer) were included this prospective study. Serum levels measured preoperatively. Ten minutes complete removal gland, intraoperative PTH (IOPTH) was amount decline (PTH decline) calculated. Postoperative D, 24 h operation. Postoperatively, developed 7(12.3%) 57 patients. IOPTH, postoperative significantly lower higher hypocalcemia. similar between groups (p 0.952).

[Incidence of hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy].

BACKGROUND Postoperative hypocalcemia is one of the most common complications of thyroid surgery. It is related to the type of disease (malignant or benign), the number of identified parathyroid glands during the surgical procedure, and the surgeon's experience. Total thyroidectomy is the procedure of choice in our hospital for benign and malignant thyroid disease, but it can increase the incid...

Critical Points Regarding Hypocalcemia after Total Thyroidectomy.

I read with interest the article “Comparison of Intraoperative versus Postoperative Parathyroid Hormone Levels to Predict Hypocalcemia Earlier after Total Thyroidectomy,” by Lee et al, published online in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. The authors analyzed the differences in the mean parathyroid hormone levels for normocalcemic and hypocalcemic total thyroidectomy patients who were teste...

Clinical and biochemical factors affecting postoperative hypocalcemia after near-total thyroidectomy.

BACKGROUND The most common complication which occurs after thyroidectomy is postoperative hypocalcemia due to parathyroid gland damage. It usually appears 24-48 hours postoperatively, but there are clinical and biochemical factors which may contribute to its earlier diagnosis. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess clinical and biochemical factors which can influence postoperative hyp...

Hypoparathyroidism after total thyroidectomy: prospective evaluation and relation with early hypocalcemia.

AIM Definitive hypoparathyrodism (hypo-PTH) represents one of the most dangerous complication after total thyroidectomy. Partial or total lesion or accidental removal of parathyroid glands is an unpredictable adverse event, although real incidence is not well defined, such as management of this deficit. We started a prospective evaluation of patients treated with total thyroidectomy in our cent...
